Exercise to Strengthen Muscle in Women Helps with Sandy Springs Back Pain Relief

Low back pain in older women requires some attention. Researchers and chiropractic back pain specialists like your Sandy Springs chiropractor at Cross Chiropractic Center provide that attention! Women who experience back pain are a special group of our chiropractic practice with whom we are happy to work!

A recent study reported that low back pain among older women is linked to abdominal truck muscle weakness. The women included in this study also experienced decreased mobility function. Even their knee extensor muscle strength was weak. What ties these concerns together? Muscle. Researchers explained that muscle weakness clearly linked low back pain, malnutrition, and decreased mobility function in older women. The good news was emphasized that exercise improved these factors. (1) Cross Chiropractic Center  sees over and over the benefit of exercise for our Sandy Springs back pain patients.

Sandy Springs chiropractic patients with back pain desire pain relief. That is the aim of care. Our patients often try other healthcare options like oral NSAIDs (number needed to treat (NNT) is 7 indicating sever patients need to be treated for 1 patient to report benefit) and SNRIs like duloxetine (NNT: 10) and exercise (NNT: 7). A recent study reported that these options often deliver clinically meaningful pain reduction as demonstrated by the above number-needed-to-treat statistics. Which works in the long run though? Exercise. The researchers wrote that the single intervention that showed sustained benefit after the study’s intervention time period came to an end was exercise. (2) We share this to foster the practice of exercise for all our Sandy Springs back pain (and neck pain) patients. Since this is an article focused about women with low back pain, Cross Chiropractic Center urges our female patients who are a little older to exercise. It’s part of the chiropractic treatment plan that includes simple exercises as the starting point!
