Sandy Springs Fall Prevention and Pain Relief with Chiropractic Care

Falls can occur at any age. Falls can cause much harm or little harm at all. Falling once surely can raise the level of fear of falling again. All these bits of information highlight the fact that falls are am issue, an issue that is age blind. Cross Chiropractic Center always asks our Sandy Springs chiropractic patients if they’ve fallen recently. Cross Chiropractic Center is in favor of interventions like exercise that may decrease the fear of falls, the impact of falls and the incidence of falls. Plus, Cross Chiropractic Center is quite good at relieving Sandy Springs back pain or neck pain that ensues.

OLDER FOLKS AND FALLS

Older folks live at home alone and with others or in community-based housing. Each scenario has a risk of falling. Rugs, pets, misreading steps, or any number of things can cause a fall. For these older folks, the fear of falling is not uncommon. Researchers have put effort into research studies looking at exercise interventions that reduce the fear of falling as well as the risk of falling. Such trials with community-dwelling older folks involved planned, structured, repetitive physical activity oriented to improving strength, gait, balance and mood as well as decreasing falls. Some interventions tested are three dimensional like Tai Chi, Yoga, resistance training, and balance work. A meta-analysis of exercise trials reported on non-statistically significant benefits but benefits even so: an 11% drop in people who fell, a 13% reduction in falls, a 19% decrease in injuries from falls. (1) Another study of aged 60-88 year olds that used a judo inspired exercise program which taught them how to fall and how to prevent falls revealed significant improvements in physical performance, fall-related self-efficacy and fall techniques. (2) They reported that such practices worked, particularly immediately following the intervention. (3) Cross Chiropractic Center would support our older Sandy Springs patients’ continued exercising to extend these fall-prevention and fall-fear-reducing advantages!

YOUNGER FOLKS AND FALLS

Younger people can appreciate Sandy Springs fall prevention strategies as falls can be detrimental to them, too. Falls and fall-related injuries put at risk people at all ages. Falls at work and at home are an issue. A workplace trial that lasted 10 weeks for working age adults with a judo-inspired exercise program was designed to improve physical function, activity, fall-related self-efficacy and safe-landing skills for a fall. Participants improved physically and psychologically. They practiced techniques in how to fall safely as well as how to prevent falls. (4) Cross Chiropractic Center supports exercise for all Sandy Springs chiropractic family members, young and old, to keep strong and healthy in the face of challenges like falls. Cross Chiropractic Center helps ease fall-related back pain and neck pain, too.
