Headaches and migraines are unwelcome visitors. Headache sufferers are usually very ready for tips on how to prevent them. Over 50 years of age, sufferers of
migraine, a primary headache, find themselves members of a global
community with migraine as a foremost cause of
disability. (1) Cross Chiropractic Center has
some prevention tips and treatment relief ideas just
for our Sandy Springs headache and migraine sufferers.
DIET AND WEIGHT
A healthy diet nourishes the body and the mind. Researchers
have noticed that migraine triggers appear
in a variety of forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary.
A high-quality diet effectively helps manage
migraine. Additionally, and more expressly, women
with chronic migraine consumed a lower diet
quality than that of women who experienced episodic
migraine. (2) A new study got
even more specific with the type of diet beneficial to
migraine patients, particularly those who
are overweight. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was found
to be episodic-migraine preventative. Usefulness
was observed within one month of the diet change.
(3) Cross Chiropractic Center is not recommending that any
of our patients begin a certain type of
diet now! If a Sandy Springs headache sufferer wishes
to explore a new diet, Cross Chiropractic Center is here to chat
and decide which diet (if any special one) is appropriate.
NUTRITION: Vitamin D
In much the same
way, vitamin D supplementation is presented. Vitamin D deficiency has been documented
in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities
of vitamin D have opened its supplementation to considered inclusion in the care and prevention of headache and migraine.
One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day reduced
the frequency of migraine including the routine drug
therapy. More analysis needs to be done,
but vitamin D supplementation seems promising.

individual Sandy Springs chiropractic patient and recommends
supplementation when applicable.
CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE
Headaches of all varieties – primary
headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are everyday
complaints brought to the Sandy Springs chiropractor. Research reported
that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga),
manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage,
biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was helpful.
In particular, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care,
some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported beneficial
for migraine headache. (4)
