It is
a world-wide epidemic: vitamin D deficiency. 14 in every 100 people around the world has poor
vitamin D levels. (1) One study reports that it
affects 1 billion people worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is linked
to a wide range of diseases. Bettering
vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is followed.
Cross Chiropractic Center encourages our Sandy Springs chiropractic patients to check
and improve as necessary their vitamin D levels.
Cross Chiropractic Center is confident that positive health benefits
will result from this effort.
DISEASES LINKED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS
A widespread vitamin D deficiency is correlated
with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic,
colorectal, kidney, breast
is related to low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic
arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional
vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are as well.
(1, 2, 3) Vitamin D participates importantly in calcium
homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular
and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-connected
to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) Vitamin D3 supplementation is effective in its care. Testing
for the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test
as to the effectiveness of the treatment. (4) Cross Chiropractic Center
notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also identified
as being affected by vitamin D status as well. Sandy Springs
chiropractic care at Cross Chiropractic Center benefits Sandy Springs chiropractic
patients with these conditions.
BENEFITS OF RAISING VITAMIN D LEVELS
Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D
is documented to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose
that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just
depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit
disorder, and autism. (1) Giving a daily equal
dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients on day one through day 21 lessens
symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) Cross Chiropractic Center sees how
these benefits are worth the work our Sandy Springs
chiropractic patients would accept to elevate
low vitamin D levels.
HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS
A study of healthy young women revealed that consuming
calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of
vitamin D by patients with levels of more than 20
ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels raise. The rise was witnessed
within the first 30 days
of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. An
interesting side finding in this study: It is hard
to get people to do what is suggested! Only 67 of the 106
study women took the recommended
supplements for the three months of the
study! (6)
